The following is a list of the parks and facilities operated and maintained by the Americus/Sumter County Parks and Recreation Authority.

  • JOYCE MYERS PARK    - Has large and small playground equipment and a 30 x 40 covered shelter for picnic and family socials. This park is in front of the Oak Grove cemetery. The entrance to the park is on Church Street.




  • BROOKDALE PARK    - Has large and small playground equipment, basketball goals, covered shelter, and a baseball diamond. The park is on Park Row Drive off Magnolia Street.


  • SHADY ACRES PARK    - Located off the Southerfield Road. Has playground equipment, basketball goals, and picnic tables. To reach this park, turn at the BP Station then make a left on Linnie Street.


  • DORIS DERISO RECREATION PARK    - A horse arena for riding, restrooms with a concession area, and bleachers. The park is across from Sumter County Animal livestock auction building on Southerfield Road.


  • BELL STREET PARK    - Small park located beside Americus Swim Center, with swings, tennis courts, and general playground equipment. The park is located behind the Americus/Sumter County Parks and Recreation Authority office on Oak Avenue.




  • R.L. FREEMAN    - Playground equipment, basketball goals, and a covered picnic area. The park is located on Bessie Mays Circle.


  • MCCOY HILL PARK    - General playground equipment and a baseball diamond. The park is located off of Poplar Street.


  • RUSSELL STREET PARK    - Small neighborhood park. Has general playground equipment. To reach this park, turn off of Forrest Street behind the old Rubo's Store on to Russell Street.


  • REES PARK    - Has large open play area, basketball court, and several pieces of playground equipment. This park is located behind the Old Rees Park School.


  • BARLOW STREET PARK    - Small park designed for young children. This park is located next to the Barlow Street Pool.


  • HABITAT PARK    - Tot lot, playground equipment, and park benches. The park is located off of Habitat Street.


  • THOMAS L. BELL MEMORIAL PARK    - Historic wooden structure baseball stadium. Features concession stands, restrooms, and dressing rooms. The grandstand seats two thousand. Located across the street from the Americus/Sumter County Recreation Authority office on Oak Avenue.


  • SOUTHEAST RECREATIONAL PARK    - Has softball complex, playground equipment, basketball court, picnic pavilion, and restrooms. Go down 280 East into Leslie. Go to the caution light. Turn left on Allen Street, and go 1/2 mile on right.


  • ROTARY PARK    - Has assorted playground equipment for small children. The park is on Harrold Avenue between the tennis courts and Americus High School.


  • ROCK HILL PARK    - Basketball court, playground equipment and picnic area. Located off of 280 West


  • HOPE COMMUNITY PARK    - Built by Habitat For Humanity, it has playground equipment. The park is located at the end of North Jackson Street.


  • OAK AVENUE SOFTBALL PARK    - Playground equipment, and three softball fields.


  • AMERICUS-SUMTER COUNTY REGIONAL COMPLEX    - Ten baseball fields (five playing, five practice); two football/soccer fields; maintenance shed; control building containing concessions, restrooms, storage, and scoring area; 40 x 40 picnic shelter; playground. The complex is located on US Highway 19 South, 2.5 miles from the traffic light at US Highway 280 and Highway 19.


  • PLAINS PARK    - Playground equipment, four lighted basketball courts, swimming pool. The Boys and Girls Club of Plains is located here. The park is located on Wayman Street in Plains.


  • WILLIE LEE WALTON "BOONE" PARK    - Playground equipment, 30 x 60 picnic shelter, basketball court, swimming pool, softball fields, fieldhouse, restrooms, lighted walking track. The park is located on Rucker Street. Turn off US Highway 19 onto Rucker, and the park is 1/2 mile down the road on the right.








  • THELMA GRAY BARNUM SENIOR CITIZENS PARK    - Recently acquired property with future plans to develop an existing pond for fishing, nature trails, picnic tables, restrooms, and outdoor classroom. This is located at the corner of Mayo and Railroad streets.
